Al Ahly’s football first team was held to a 1-1 draw against El Gouna F.C. in a postponed game from the 16th fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.
Taher Mohamed Taher gave us the lead in the 57th minute of the game; however, Mohamed Naguib, El Gouna’s defender, was able to equalize in the dying minutes of the encounter ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
First Half
The Red Eagles started the first half looking forward to scoring the opening goal but were faced by the opposition’s solid defense.
Mohamed Sherif and Mahmoud Kahraba had two crucial chances in the first fifteen minutes of the match; however, they failed to convert the ball into the net.
On the other side, El Gouna depended mainly on a low block and quick counter-attacks, which didn’t create any threat on our defense.
Samir’s Injury
In the 38th minute of the game, Saad Samir was replaced by Yasser Ibrahim after picking up an adductor muscle injury.
The final minutes of the first half passed by with both teams looking to take the lead; however, the referee blew his whistle to announce the end of the first half.
Second Half
At the start of the second half, Pitso Mosimane used his bench replacing Mahmoud Kahraba and Nasser Maher with Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Taher Mohamed Taher in order to refresh our attacking line.
Opening Goal
The Red Eagles’ constant pressure paid off in the 57th minute when Taher’s screamer found the net giving the lead to Al Ahly.
Ball Possession and Fourth Substitution
After taking the lead, the current title holders looked to add the second goal while keeping ball possession.
In the 66th minute of the encounter, Hussein El Shahat made way for Mohamed Hany, who participated for the first time after recovering from his injury.
Final Substitution and Equalizer
After eight minutes, Mosimane made Al Ahly’s last substitution in the game as Salah Mohsen entered instead of Sherif.
With four minutes left on the clock, El Gouna equalized the score as Naguib’s header found the net.
Final Whistle
The Red Eagles were on the hunt to score the winning goal, but time wasn’t on our side as the referee blew the final whistle ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
